The Programme

music teacher/facilitator for seniors
movement activities for autism

The MoveMe! programme comprises several components:

Movement Exploration and Expansion

Through a variety of movement activities, participants

- gain awareness of their body

- increase awareness of space

- expand their range of motion

- improve coordination

- develop self-control

- improve balance and flexibility

- build strength and confidence

Regulation

Breathing, relaxation, stillness – some time is devoted to these important but often neglected aspects of regulating ourselves!

Regulation also includes organizing oneself to be ready for activities.

In a session, this may mean helping a participant to calm down, or bring up energy, focus and attention. (This is particularly important for participants with autism, who may be anxious or otherwise not ready to engage.)

Music-making

Through a variety of instruments and activities, participants explore musical elements (e.g. beat, rhythm, tempo, volume, timbre) and partake in music-making.

Social Engagement

Social activities include partner work, listening to others, playing in an ensemble, group work, dancing and working with props towards a common focus. Participants feel

- included in a group

- seen/heard by others

- a sense of social connection

Improvisation and Creativity

Some time is spent on improvisation (with music/movement) and exploring new ideas, however small they may be. Participants are empowered and encouraged to create and share their ideas with others.
